Biography

There was always a keen interest from a young age surrounding all aspects of photography with the influence of his father. In 1973, at the age of sixteen, he attended Epsom School of Art to study for a three year foundation course. His studies continued with a two year Communication course with which he left in 1978 ascertaining a prolific First in Photography; the first to ever gain such a high grade at the institution at that time. With this, over the next five years, he worked as a photographic assistant working for three photographers in Kensington.

In 1983, Dick Marsh moved onto become a self employed photographer working for several advertising agencies under the agent Mary MacKillop for many successful years, building a good rapport with several high ranking and worldwide companies and clients.

With his reputation before him, he obtained work through the London Gunrooms working on advertisements and seasonal brochures moving aside from his other still life clientele.

By the late 1990’s, his passion for field sports influenced his personal still life, launching his range of ‘Sporting Girls’ and ‘Close Range’ prints to showcase his perception, flair and ingenuity. This was a major selling point in his career, for the first time selling his own independent work.

The new millennium saw the inevitable and overnight change into the digital era. This saw a whole new way in which pictures could be taken and saw a reshuffle with his work, practically leaving an entire film processed education behind for the uprising and unknown digital camera. However, this hurdle was overcome, with his work becoming almost better and faster.

With the digital age, Dick went into action photography aside to his usual still life, in the form of field sports. The ability to hold hundreds of shots on one camera and the ability to review each shot made his job very successful and the feedback on his new found work met high applause.

Today, Dick continues to sell his work and maintain his work for the high ranking gun rooms up and down the country, but more so now in the area of field sports throughout the game season. His ability is broad and unmarred, holding his precision and attention to detail intact but now in conjunction with new found flamboyance whilst maintaining his long held elegance and expertise.
